Vortex flowmeters measure flow by counting the frequency generated by the sensor (piezoelectric element) inside the device, calculating the flow rate from the measured velocity using mathematical formulas. These measured frequencies are proportional to the flow rate. Pressure and temperature data are used in the calculation because they directly affect density, especially in mass flow measurement of gases. For applications where these two values vary, compensated models are preferred; they calculate the changing density and ensure accurate flow measurement.
